Full Moon in Cancer at 04° 58’
Astrologer Colin Bedell says:
The longer I study Astrology, the more I realize that of all the twelve zodiac signs - I think Cancer is the only mandatory sign we need to understand. It’s not that the other eleven are irrelevant, it’s just that we are neurobiologically hardwired for everything Cancer takes a stand for. We cannot survive without belonging, connection, and safety. In the absence of what Cancer offers us, there is always suffering. So when we have an opportunity to dive deeper into this sign’s nourishing waters, I want us to go headfirst.
The annual Full Moon in Cancer is our opportunity to examine our relationship to emotions within the context of home, family, and belonging. Because our lives depend on it. Firstly, this sign offers us a brave space to check for the wide gaps between what we’re feeling and what we’re saying/doing. Cancer also invites us to notice an inner malfunction or magic between what we’re feeling/what we need AND what we’re demonstrating/requesting. The malfunction is the gap and misalignment. The magic is the space between what we’re feeling and what we’re showing is imperative for our well-being. I think of this space as “Home”. I don’t often contextualize home as a place outside of us but as an internal space for checking in with our feelings. So we can get curious about the emotion’s backstory, biology, and biography.
This is the process of the Full Moon illumination; we find safety in exploring our emotional bodies and healing the blocks between our feelings and behavior. This transforms our future and our past in radical ways. This is the primary precondition for what Cancer next offers us – belonging. You see, we cannot accurately belong to others more than we belong to ourselves. The belonging to the self is “home”. The naming and normalizing of these emotions so that we can define and declare them to the people we call family. It’s this twofold approach of belonging to self and belonging with others – because we’re not pretending, performing, people-pleasing, and perfecting. We’re leveraging our emotions as a bridge for greater connection and closeness.
The Full Moon’s supportive aspects to Saturn and Jupiter create a context for safely sharing our emotions with people who’ve earned the right to hear them. Think deeply about who you feel emotionally safe with and how you can take responsibility for any choices you make that inspire defensiveness, withdrawal, criticism, and/or contempt. Additionally, Mercury currently retrograde, is exactly conjunct to Mars in Sagittarius – giving you the courage through potential conflict and leveraging truth as a bridge to connection, not just conflict. Where there are people, there’s conflict. So be a voice that normalizes “differences” – which all conflict is anyway; a difficulty with a difference – and bravely share what you’re feeling face-to-face with others, listen thoughtfully to theirs too, and see if you can be a space of home and family. The most necessary strategy of our time.
