Every step considered for minimal impact.
MATERIALS
We do our very best to source 100% recycled materials, we use high quality vegan leathers and vegan glues, recycled wood, papers and cardboards. All of our papers are sourced from FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified sustainable timbers.
We avoid materials that have a heavy or dirty impact such as ply, due to the high resin/glue content and they are not usually a sustainable timber, mostly from rainforests overseas, and not FSC certified.
MANUFACTURING
We focus on small, high quality print runs with quality materials sourced from all over the world. We print working with highly skilled people that have been doing it for 30+ years and an amazing production team who are continually evolving with us. We print in China, Europe and Australia depending on the product complexity - our print company in China uses all our FSC papers, vegan leathers and adheres to strict oversight from both us and the Forest Stewardship Council.
Any items that don't pass quality control, are damaged or don't meet our standards are donated to schools and don't end up in landfill.
PACKAGING
Journals/Planners: Shipped in eco friendly recycled padded bags or boxes national and international.
Posters: Shipped in 100% custom paper/card based poster tubes with no plastic end caps. Combination of virgin & recycled FSC papers.
Padding: 100% recycled expander-style packaging alternative to bubble wrap. We aim to have as minimal impact as possible and therefore do not use bubble wrap or single use plastics. If you receive bubble wrap in your order it is recycled!
Compostable Packaging: We researched all over the world for a more sustainable packaging seemingly like 'compostable packaging' which is often used to greenwash companies. Some of the issues we found were that most compostable packaging is made from GMO corn, and most can't be composted in your backyard, but rather only in an industrial compost that not many communities have. We also realised that although we try, not every label from shipping companies is made using compostable labels, some attach various plastic based labels. After a lot of customer & field research, we determined that compostable packaging often ends up in either landfill - and is a one time use product, or it ends up in the recycling system degrading things that can actually be recycled. It was our decision to keep things simple. We make paper goods, and therefore we have sourced custom 100% paper (a combination of post-consumer recycled waste & virgin material) packaging. It comes from a sustainable carbon harvesting source and is then reused through the recycling system again and again, eventually it will also decompose being from trees. It's not ideal, but there isn't a global clean solution we have found, and if you have one, please email us, we are open to professional suggestions.
