Cancer full moon illumination:
‘I heal my ancestral lineage by connecting deeply with my roots and the land I walk on ’
The first full moon of ’23. Welcome.
I’ve attempted to write this moon update multiple times, but with Mercury retrograding right over my natal Mercury as we speak, sense making is distant and replaced with a sweet hum of not much else but random words crashing into a cacophony of semi-ordered chaos.
Capricorn’s high expectations are weighing in with invisible pressure of delivering something that is perfectly poignant and practical for the beginning of a new year… *crickets*
But after an entire year of embodied practice of one of my main intentions for 2022: ‘don’t force a turd’, (simple yet profound I know), I am now a master at knowing when to let go and just let it be until ease is present again. And honesty cures all in between.
Much to my bewilderment behind the circus music that is currently my brain, a moon message did come through as we swim in the Crab’s territory of emotions and intuition bubbling to the surface.
In context to beginning a new year we may be figuring out what structural things need shifting or rebuilding to call in what we want under a results driven Capricorn sun.
Contrary to popular manifesting culture belief, you do not need to be in a place of unicorn-high-vibes to call in something new. You can be in a place of tender recognition of something severely not working to want something different, and that is totally ok. These places are the seeds of powerful new direction and change.
The magic happens when there is complete acceptance of where you are currently at (and where you have come from), combined with knowing you deserve a new or different path. Knowing and believing that this new or different path is also yours to walk. Acceptance and knowing together create the stage for an empowered decision and choice to make change, rather one from blinded desperation or lack, that is unconsciously clawing for something different not aware of digging into a deeper hole.
Capricorn provides the structure and integrity, Cancer provides the cushioning of emotional and intuitive experience, or 'nourishing the bones'. Be gentle with yourself wherever you are at, don’t be fooled by critical thoughts or pressure that you must produce a perfect life plan RIGHT NOW. You can start with what is not working. And then soften into the bosom of life until you find the stillness of acceptance and knowing to choose which path or what to change that aligns with a vision or dream you have.
If you don’t know anything right now, accept comfort in the unknown and wait until little moments of clarity pop in, grab them, write them down, and eventually you will build an evolving manual for your life. Sometimes drips, sometimes tidal waves, it’s all the same ocean.

Full Moon Cancer at 16° 21’
Astrologer Colin Bedell says:
Cancer’s power is incomparable. I think about it often actually. It’s the introduction of Water in the zodiac, one of the strongest natural elements we have. It’s also the Astrological reflection of the fiercest behavior in the animal kingdom, which is the adult female when she perceives a threat to her young and environment. That strength, that power is… all Cancer. Can you think of a force more powerful than love of family and love of home? I can’t.
In the Natal Chart, of the twelve houses, the one Cancer rules is the 4th House. It’s located at the very bottom of the chart. In Latin, they call it the Imum Coeli, translated into "the bottom of the sky." So, it’s the foundation of the chart. Cancer is the foundation of your soul. Without the bottom of the sky, without roots, in the absence of belonging, we cannot survive or thrive. There is really no neutral or uncertainty here. So again, can you think of a force more powerful than Cancer?
This annual Full Moon in Cancer is helping us complete whatever we think is more important or valuable than the bottom of the sky, and commence the commitment required to heal the ancestral lineage, connect our roots, and the land we walk on. The commitment to Cancer is a lifelong one. It honors your ancestors and continues with your descendants. So we don’t need to complete the process immediately, but we do need to understand the context we’re committing to.
On the idea of a small step you can take right now to begin, I’d like you to explore how naming, normalizing, and experiencing your emotions is the precondition to Cancer. Stop betraying yourself by pretending you’re not feeling what you’re feeling. Stop uprooting yourself from the bottom of the sky when you distance, deny, or distract yourself from what you’re feeling. Cancer inspires us to root down by rooting into our emotions. We can pretend that we’re more logical, critical thinking and sometimes get visited by emotions, but the very opposite is true. As humans, we are primarily emotional, sentient beings and we get visited by intelligence and problem solving on rare occasions!
On that note, Mercury, currently retrograde in Capricorn, is forming an exact opposition to the Full Moon, so we will be inspired to tell the truth about our emotional nature and choose Capricorn behaviors that allow us to regulate and move through tough emotions responsibly. That’s the primary connection between Cancer and Capricorn, which I value deeply. Additionally, Uranus retrograde in Taurus forms a sextile to this Full Moon, reframing the way we investigate emotions. I hope this piece gave you insight on “name it to frame it!”
May this Full Moon be a homecoming of the heart that helps you feel connected to people, to self, and to the land beneath you - your own bottom of the sky.
