When the great illuminator meets the planet of the underworld, we are being asked to check where our egos are in need of stabilization. The Sun is the bringer of all life on earth and in astrology is the cosmic body of divine expression. As the Sun travels through the zodiac each year, it works like a flashlight, shining its bright light on all of the themes and archetypes of our lives. Every year the Sun meets with Pluto, the princess of darkness and each year we are initiated into a new era of being.
The last time the Sun met with Pluto was on the 19th of January at the very last degree of Capricorn. Think back to that date and consider where your frame of mind was at that time. The Sun and Pluto conjunction acts similarly to the new moon aspect where we are initiating, planting and germinating a new sense of self and identity, purging out old patterns and working tirelessly to let go of the old.
In mundane astrology the Sun represents the ‘king’ or the authority of society, the harsh aspects with Pluto force a period of change and adjustment. Politically this is a tense time where leaders in positions of power will have to face the consequences for past decisions. We may see a lot of scrutiny and pressure come over presidents and persons of power to change their financial strategy (Sun in Taurus) for the sake of the greater group (Pluto in Aquarius).
It is time to make adjustments to our own sense of inner authority and take control, shed, remove, adjust or alter the way that we relate to the physical and sensual world. What are some small steps that you can make today that will help the greater good of society?
