Refusing to be upstaged by Neptune’s recent retrograde, Saturn begins its own backspin in Aries. Both Saturn and Neptune’s retrogrades foster different kinds of reality checks. If Neptune retrograde is about recognizing deception, Saturn’s retrograde is about taking responsibility for decisions made while wearing rose-colored glasses.
Bear in mind that Saturn and Neptune have only been in Aries since the spring. On an energetic level, our bodies and minds are still acclimating to this territory, and built into the framework of this conjunction is the susceptibility to being taken in. Neptune’s influence makes duplicitous dealings seem transparent and straightforward, and trusting in our initial instincts registers as good logic from a Saturnian, self-preservationist point of view. We want to believe that we aren’t naïve. And while there IS great value in exploring possibilities and taking risks in new environments, Saturn’s retrograde reminds us that boundaries are essential to any successful enterprise.
This retrograde will be especially useful for those of us who have walked back our 'no' when we should have held to our boundary. Recent boundary infringements were probably slow and imperceptible – we bought into a good story while our sense of security or agency was gradually eroded. As we wake up to the discomfort of the situation we’ve found ourselves in, saddled with goals or dogmas that aren’t our own, Saturn’s Rx kicks into high gear, imparting that we have more authority than we’ve been led to believe, and we can take it back any time that we choose. On September 1st, Saturn slips into Pisces before Neptune makes its return to its domicile, as if to say, “Let’s reaffirm our foundation so fantasy can’t maintain its foothold.”
