One may question what the significance of a mere asteroid is and why we give so much attention to this small floating body that lives in our orbit amongst giants. This small ball of water ice, gas, and dust that was just recently discovered in 1977 is only 125 miles in diameter, yet in astrology it has become a significant source information regarding the way which humans understand the processes of healing. Chiron has been dubbed the “rainbow bridge” by renowned astrologer Barbara Hand Clow and her work with Chiron teaches us the importance of understanding this tiny gas ball in order to harness our evolutionary potential. Chiron’s orbit lands between Saturn and Uranus and it is the key which we need to unlock our connection to the outer realms of consciousness.
Chiron is the asteroid of healers, medicine, alchemy and teachers. Whenever Chiron makes an aspect to another planet, there is an opportunity to in some way to chisel away the chrysalis that Saturn has constructed in order for us to transform into a new self. It sounds quite magical, but in practicality what it looks like is overcoming any hurt, pain or trauma that has been sufficiently implanted into the psyche, body, or somatic systems of our being. Sometimes that can be as simple as overcoming one’s own anger to muster an apology to devoting one’s life to the suffering.
When Chiron in Aries meets with Mars in Capricorn we lay witness to a proactive initiative towards protecting oneself from even needing to be healed in the first place. It is a reactive response to past hurts, it says “nuh uh, I already know where this will lead and I just don’t have that kind of money for a therapist that it would take to heal that wound.” We see the red flags and we are going to put the systems in place to help protect our egos.
Mars in Capricorn is like the decorated sergeant that responds to orders without a blink of an eye, for the sake of maintaining the structures that it is sworn to protect. Mars is responsible, sharp and direct in Capricorn and dedicated to the commander. When Mars makes a square aspect to Chiron in Aries, it will initiate and launch the appropriate attack that is not a response, but simply a preventative measure. This is a defensive strategy built from foresight.
This aspect is a part of a larger more dynamic planetary relationship between Mercury and the North and South Nodes of the Moon. There is also a Full Moon among us in the Leo/Aquarius axis so the energies are quite dynamic. This will be a good week to safeguard your nervous system, notice any knee jerk reactions you may have towards defensiveness. This energy is also ripe for getting into gear and utilizing the pre-emptive nature of Mars in Capricorn to get ahead of any potential setbacks or difficulties that you may foresee in the near or distant future. We can also take this opportunity to take our healing into our own hands and initiate and advocate for our own needs whether it is in our relationships, work or in the medical realms.
