Mars Enters Capricorn
Mars Enters Capricorn
14th PST 11:34 PM / 15th AEDT 6:34 PM
Mars enters the sign of its exaltation, where it will transit for the next five and a half weeks. Cardinal Earth might seem like an unusual place for the warrior planet to thrive, but Mars is resourceful, and Capricorn rewards resourcefulness.
The decans associated with Capricorn correspond to the 2, 3, and 4 of Pentacles/Disks in the Tarot. These cards move us from a state of overextension while navigating change (2 of Pentacles), to finding the balance and following through on commitments (3 of Pentacles), to the attainment of material security (4 of Pentacles). Mars always has a goal. In Capricorn, its goal is to achieve personal and professional success through the smart management of real-world affairs. This is an ideal time to tackle long-term projects because we will be disinclined to quit when the going gets tough. Even impossible odds aren’t a deterrent now. Mars offers us the temerity to assume a challenge.
Ambition and discipline are nice-to-haves, and Mars does excellent work in Capricorn. However, the risk of this transit lies in conflating material achievements with spiritual ones. Keep in mind that Capricorn is archetypally about the depths, as well as the heights. It is about the descent *for the purpose of* the ascent. Winning for winning’s sake won’t fulfil us, and we’ll find that out fast if we get the thing we’re after without learning a corresponding life lesson in the process. This is why Mars in Capricorn plays the long game: short games might change our circumstances, but long games change our character. In the coming weeks, choose your objectives carefully. There is a battle worth fighting because the strategy required promises to evolve you. Pick that battle. An external victory arrived at without internal transformation will only feel hollow.
