Sun Enters Capricorn

Welcome to the solstice! This is an invitation to pause, to honor the hours of shortest light in the Northern hemisphere and longest light in the Southern hemisphere. We enter Capricorn season reverently, because to commune with Capricorn is also to commune with its planetary ruler, Saturn, the Lord of Karma and Time.
It makes sense that this is the slice of the year that we associate with backwards-gazing, assessing our progress over the last twelve months so we can greet the impending twelve with fixed and focused intentions. And yet, as any astrology enthusiast will tell you, this is not the true, energetic start of the year. Capricorn season, bridging December and January, divides our calendar between past and future, then and now, like the God Janus gazing left and right, emphasizing the nature of transition. But even though Capricorn is a cardinal sign, it does not provide carte blanche to forge ahead. Whether you are slowed by winter’s cold or summer’s heat, you ARE slowed here; slowed in order to take in your surroundings and identify where you are in space.
