Mars enters Capricorn
Mars enters Capricorn
4th PST 6:58 / 5th AEDT 2:58
Following a six-week stint in Sagittarius, Mars enters Capricorn, a sign oriented to ambition and excellence. At first glance, our action planet might seem out of step in Capricorn’s stoic terrain. But what greater task could be assigned to a warrior than that of self-preservation? In fact, Mars is considered exalted in the sign of the sea goat. Here, assertive energies coalesce to fuel endeavors requiring work, wit, and wisdom to strike paydirt.
Mars will spend just under seven weeks in Capricorn, and roughly two of those weeks (between 1/18 and 2/3) within orb of Mercury, emphasizing the necessity of direct communication. This conjunction serves as a reminder that we can be proactive yet patient with others. We must also be patient regarding career or educational milestones, leveraging our skills effectively. Success is not attained overnight, but to make progress, we must communicate AND act with integrity. Attempt one without the other and we'll make ourselves subject to immediate exposure and scrutiny. Better that we show up to every occasion bringing our consistent best. After all, if we come prepared, there’s little risk of falling behind. Or, if we stay ready, we don’t have to GET ready.
Mars will additionally square the lunar nodes in Aries and Libra on January 28/29, asking us to reconsider how we define “winning”. This will be a turning point for people pleasers who have measured their success in others’ approval. A desire for praise from friends or family is certainly reasonable, but is their recognition *essential* for your future happiness? Maybe, going forward, winning will mean chasing personal passions, even if that means disappointing others’ expectations. Maybe winning, at a fundamental level, won’t involve impressing others *at all*. Mars’ sojourn through Capricorn suggests this is the attitude we might wish to adopt if we intend to succeed, not only with our immediate objectives, but in the scheme of our soul’s evolution.
