We are sitting on the edge, liminally, between two worlds. Old cycles take their last breaths as the new ones emerge. The dawning of a new “era” is upon us as we enter 2025. We can call this time a prelude, a prophecy of what will come, as many of the outer planets move into new signs if even temporarily. The year shows us what we will start to see take shape in 2026. Jupiter enters Cancer, Saturn enters Aries, Uranus enters Gemini, and Neptune enters Aries. From Saturn to Pluto, every one of the planets move beyond Water and Earth signs into Fire and Air.
Fire and Air work together to feed one another — nourish each other. With caution and care, we can fan and stoke the flames. If left unchecked, we can unintentionally set wildfires with matches we never knew were lit. In essence, we are not in our heads, but turning ideas into action. We push forth, aflame with passion and are asked to follow that inner fire as a guiding light. We have to know our limits, as anything can catch on and get out of control.
But not all fires rage. Some smolder, burning quietly in the shadows to begin. Thanks to the retrogrades that riddle the first four months of the year, 2025 is ushered in slowly. Mars starts us off, continuing its retrograde motion from the previous December. Once back in the sign of Cancer, we tune inward, focusing on our security and foundations. We check our repressed feelings and submerge ourselves in the ocean of our inner sanctums. What brings us back to life? What fuels us when we feel like we have lost all motivation? Mars will end its retrograde on February 23/24, but will not fully feel itself until mid April. If you are witnessing the slowness to start the year, lean in and listen.
Venus will station retrograde in 2025, not long after the Mars retrograde ends. Venus backtracks through Aries and Pisces in March and April, bringing up a need to look at our values differently. It will have us reworking much of what came up in January and February. Venus finds hardship in Aries but bounty in Pisces. Here, we see the juxtaposition — beauty exists in unexpected, and sometimes ugly, ways. We are told to witness the unusual with fresh eyes and reimagine our relationship with what feels unresolved.
Since March 2023, Saturn has been in Pisces, laying flexible foundations. What we have restructured and reformed through this transit will be tested during the Pisces/Virgo eclipses of 2025. We will deal with narratives of surrender and control — seeing what we no longer can hold onto with an iron grip. To reinforce this relationship between these eclipses and Saturn, Saturn will enter Aries temporarily from May until early September, then building upon what we’ve discovered during the Aries/Libra eclipses of 2024. Shortly after the final Aries eclipse, Neptune will move into the Cardinal Fire sign. The martian ways of Aries will need time to adjust to Neptune’s nebulous territory. We may be asked to charge ahead without a clear direction and use our intuition as a compass.
The idea of “ending and beginning” will truly encapsulate 2025, as Aries and Pisces get a lot of attention this year. With Aries and Pisces being the first and last signs of the zodiac, they refresh, rejuvenate, and reincarnate. We have an eclipse crossover, as the North Node moves from Aries to Pisces in January. Then, Saturn and Neptune bounce between the two signs throughout the year, foreshadowing their full entrances into Aries in 2026. The hovering of the Saturn/Neptune conjunction is a hallmark of the year. Together, these two allow for boundaries and structures to dissolve. They erode away what felt timeless in favor of a new “forever”. A fresh start is born out of the dismantling of broken systems.
Uranus enters Gemini briefly in July, after having spent time in Taurus the last seven years. This will start a trend of rethinking how we communicate with one another. Uranus acts as a mediator between Saturn, Neptune, and Pluto. It grants just in time revelations that sparks flexibility and creativity. In the coming years, Uranus in Gemini will be pivotal placement, reminding us of the power of fluidity and mutability.
One of the best transits of 2025 is Jupiter’s ingress into Cancer on June 9/10. Exalted in watery realms of Cancer, Jupiter feels the most auspicious and abundant here. Jupiter in Cancer acts as a nurturing caretaker to all that we hope to expand. The seeds we plant are full to the brim with opportunities to grow. With care, commitment, and a little leap of faith, we are reminded that anything is possible. Jupiter will square off with Saturn in on June 15/16, perhaps trying to wrangle in our desire of growth. However, this feeling is temporary. Once Jupiter and the Sun meet on June 24/25, we find freedom.
2025 is a prelude, a marker that turns our attention to the oncoming decade. It is the dawning of a new era. One where we are baptized by fire, only to rise again from the ashes of the past and ascend right into a new future.
