What IS the 'Self', anyway? It’s so interesting to me that we make 'Self' a prefix with all these different concepts. Like: Self-help, self-care, self-love and self-worth, to name a few. Of course, there’s a time in an Aries-ruled time and place for differentiation in order to understand our autonomy. Though, when it comes to the New Moon in Libra, we have to ask ourselves, maybe it’s time to bring the self back to the other. In other words, bring ourselves back to each other and the quality of our relationships.

I have no clue what the 'Self' is, but I suspect it might be collaborative, which is why I love the new moon reflection. A Course in Miracles shares a similar understanding when it teaches us that we think we are sunbeams separate from the sun, a wave separate from the ocean or a blade of grass separate from the lawn. When in fact, the 'Self' might be a collaborative context that is only made when it knows it exists because it is in relationship with others. This New Moon in Libra is a reminder that an awareness of 'Self' is truly the floor of a spiritual study, but not the ceiling. We are learning how to bring the self into harmony with others, and others in harmony with the self. And doing so, we start to understand the power that exists in collaboration and connection. A sunbeam is nothing without the sun. And a wave ceases to exist without the ocean. Human beings die when they are lonely and disconnected. I’m always a little suspicious of any spiritual teacher, technique and/or practice that neglects to integrate the fact that the quality of our life is determined by the quality of our relationships, not the quality of our insert 'Self' prefix here. So perhaps you can re-examine your willingness to develop stronger, relational intelligence and more adaptive, relational skills under the New Moon in Libra. I don’t write this casually, but your life literally depends on it. What is more important than investing in the relationships that boost our immune system? Strengthen our neurocognitive abilities? Open up opportunities and pathways for professional success?

There’s a really beautiful grand water trine in this New Moon chart, giving us more of the emotional awareness around these ideas. With Jupiter in Cancer inspiring us to get more of attuned with the people that we love, Mars and Mercury in Scorpio motivating us to trust the people we care about the most, and Saturn in Pisces providing the principle that relationships are the highest spiritual practice, you could see that all three water signs in this beautiful dynamic provide a bounty of support. It’s not just information because of a new moon and an air sign, but inspiration because of a change of heart that the water signs give us.

The 'Self' is not a static identity to protect. It’s a living, breathing exchange made real through relationships. Under this New Moon, we remember that who we are is shaped by how we love, how we listen, how we repair and how we show up again. Let this New Moon be your invitation to participate more consciously in the relationships that are shaping the story of your life, because that’s where the 'Self' is made visible.



 

Aries
