Venus Enters Cancer
Venus Enters Cancer

Venus dips into Cancer today, orienting our romantic sensibilities to the lunar tides for the next three and a half weeks. In Cancer, Venus answers to the moon, and so our feelings tend to fluctuate here. It’s only by comparison with Venus’ in Gemini’s overstimulated disposition that Cancerian waters seem like calmer seas. Yet the oft hot-and-cold nature of Venus in Cancer has less to do with wanting to explore our options and more to do with our desire to protect our hearts. An overabundance of caution can read as disinterest. Conversely, trying to 'lock it down' can spook our chosen love interest. The desire for emotional intimacy can bring ALL our attachment issues to the surface here. And then, oversensitivity compounds misunderstandings.
The important thing to remember during Venus in Cancer is that intimacy is a process. Trust has to be earned over time, it can’t simply be given, in the same way that feeling safe doesn’t just happen – we have to create the conditions for our safety.
So, this may be more of a weepy and nostalgia-driven moment. Especially because we might find ourselves attracted to people who 'feel like home' – and 'home' is generally a baggage-filled place. Fortunately, Venus will make virtually no hard aspects in the sign of the Crab. The one exception is Venus’ square to Chiron on July 5/6, which is bound to arouse romantic insecurities. A good topic to meditate on at this time is *why* we like what we like. Familiarity with certain types of behavior or giving a pass to certain types of treatment may feel natural, but is it healthy? We can be comfortable in dysfunction and this predisposition can only be corrected by valuing ourselves just as highly as we value the ones we love.
