The sun enters Scorpio, joining Mercury and Mars, and immediately activating a square to Pluto, still on the first degree of Aquarius. The tension between planets in fixed signs indicates a frustration with a present situation. Someone’s authority is keeping you stationary. Their agency stifles your own. Their decisions inhibit your progress. This is a season where we can peer through the veil and perceive the extent of our own power, but right now, we peel back the curtain to reveal… Another curtain, the Pluto of it all, barring our path. A little psychic warfare might give us more of a thrill if our opponent weren’t stronger than us. And a little delayed gratification wouldn’t be so bad if we didn’t *want* so much! That’s the problem with wanting: it’s a sensation that consumes.
The first decan of Scorpio (or the first ten degrees of the sign) is ruled by Mars and associated with hunger, desire and the violence by which hunger is often sated and desires are obtained. The sun here illuminates the transience of TRUE satisfaction. Victories and pleasures are both fleeting, and no sign knows better than Scorpio that change is the only constant. Scorpio season highlights the ways in which we wrestle with disappointment, attempt to hold on to what is 'ours', and ultimately make peace with the ephemeral nature of existence. Being alive is an intimate dance. Birth and decay and death are intimate experiences; more meaningful than today’s lusts and tomorrow’s conquests. Regardless of your stage of life, Scorpio season invites you to reimagine yourself as an alchemist. Desires distil and refine, but true power lies in releasing the expectation of perpetual satiety or dominion. This understanding is what enables us to transform the base metal of our reality into gold.
