The Sun enters Cancer today, kicking off a month of emotional highs and lows. Fortunately, we are relatively self-aware of our moods at this time. We won’t be able to hide what we are feeling, nor do we want to. We have no shortage of opinions, and unapologetic demeanors will invite reactions from those whom we cross paths with. Remember, EVERYONE is going through it in some capacity now. EVERYONE is sensitive, and EVERYONE is taking it (whatever IT is) personally.
It's natural that when faced with stormy seas, we may prefer to retreat below deck into the safety of our private cabin. Familiar environments help us to self-regulate. They also allow us to duck unfair projections or sidestep the criticisms of those who have mistaken our compassion for weakness. Our true blue friends won’t put a target on our backs – we need that kind of genuine support to feel our best in the month ahead.
However, just because we prefer the company of friends and family while the sun transits Cancer doesn’t mean we shouldn’t expect random outbursts. Sometimes we take our emotions out unfairly on those that we are closest to because we think they’ll give us a pass. Try not to take your loved ones for granted. No one deserves to be treated like a punching bag, even if you’re just blowing off steam (and even if that’s how your dynamic has always functioned).
A less discussed aspect of Cancer season is how it intensifies our instinct to protect – and to protect not only ourselves and our loved ones, but also our traditions, biases, or our very way of life. Defense is the best offense. However, Cancer IS a cardinal sign, so at the end of the day, this is a season of taking action, whether at the family reunion or behind closed doors.
