Sun enters Cancer
21st PDT 7:58 / 22nd AEST 0:58
The sun enters instinctive, compassionate Cancer today, trading mutable air for cardinal water. Its ingress marks the solstice, the mid-point of the year, heralding the longest length of day in the northern hemisphere and longest length of night in the southern hemisphere. Regardless of where we plant our feet on the planet, this is a period of transition and an acknowledgement of polar extremes. This is a self-protective season, one where we wish to occupy familiar spaces and places, and surround ourselves with familiar people and objects. We want to be comfortable, and because our past lived experiences are presumably “known”, we find safety in that. However, familiarity is not without complexity. Just because things are comfortable doesn’t mean they are good for us. Besides, people change. Objects age. Places evolve. Nostalgia hits hard, but we can’t go back in time. We might revere our long-standing relationships for their consistency, but true intimacy is built, not on familiarity, but on vulnerability. The sun’s transit through Cancer requires us to bring our honest, open-hearted, contemporary selves to each engagement. Exposure might feel like a risk, but this is the best means of offering authentic support and receiving it in return.
