Mercury, having spent the better part of two weeks inching closer to Jupiter, stations retrograde just shy of the great benefic. They won’t meet until mid-August, when they align in Leo.
And for now, this might be a good thing. It may have felt as though you were inching closer to the launch of a grand plan, some venture that would have provided much longed-for ease while also affirming your intelligence and perhaps even your moral superiority. While you might think that this scheme was too big to fail, pursuing it would have meant overlooking the fine print, the print cautioning against trusting in convictions rooted in optimism rather than experience. Mercury’s retrograde could now stall a deal, but it will also protect us from our naivete.
Because now we HAVE to address the obvious. We won’t have a choice. Someone is intent on shoving it in our faces - pointing out double-standards, the flaws in our logic, perhaps even our prejudices. Mercury in Cancer can find us insisting that we are not emotional about something we are clearly emotional about - at any rate, too emotionally invested to have a unbiased conversation. Mercury *retrograde* in Cancer, then, asks us to wrestle with our biases, to reflect upon where sensitivity sidelines our better judgment, AND to see how emotional patterns constellate in the company we keep. It's difficult to admit when we are wrong, but it is even more difficult to pinpoint that we may have been raised or culturally inculcated into views and opinions we have never thought to question. Now is the time to ask questions: to question the veracity of memory, to question why we romanticize the past, and to question what we get out of the exercise, which at the end of the day, may be nothing but a false sense of security.
