Neptune Enters Aries

Neptune has spent the past fourteen years moving through Pisces. The planet of illusion, mysticism and fantasy (and its dark twin, escapism) in domicile has coincided with new movements in art, media and spirituality. It has also dissolved boundaries to privacy and raised questions about mental health in a time of chronic online-ness. Since 2011, social media has evolved from the province of the young to a necessity for global communication. Our welfare, capacity for influence and even our means of education have been yoked to the lens.
Historically, Neptune’s transit through Pisces has birthed religious movements that would be defended or challenged during Neptune in Aries. Neptune in Pisces incubated Protestant Reformation ideals in the 1520s that gained traction after Neptune's 1530s entrance to Aries. Neptune entered Pisces in 1847, shortly before the Fox Sisters became the poster children for Spiritualism, a fashionable trend by the time Neptune entered Aries in the 1860s. Even the Great Schism of 1054, which divided the Catholic and Eastern Orthodox Churches, was a Neptune in Aries event predicated on theological disputes that reached an apex during Neptune in Pisces. These are just a few examples of Neptune in Aries’ impulse to ferry spiritual concepts from gestation to manifestation.
Spiritual ideas evolve when they hit a critical mass and social media has aided in this modern exercise. The current renaissance in astrological popularity is a byproduct of Neptune in Pisces. As Neptune enters Aries, discernment must counteract delusions disseminated by the lens. We might aim to bring what we’ve discovered in the transient landscape of social media into our communities in a more intentional, informed and substantial way.
