Today, messenger-planet Mercury enters mutable Pisces, sign of the Fishes. Mercury’s transits define how we collect, internalize, and convey information, and in nebulous Pisces, truth can be stranger than fiction. Into cosmic waters we cast our nets, drawing up knowledge in-between worlds. With Mercury traversing a Jupiter-ruled sign, we can be forgiven for elevating fantasy over fact. Yet as we admire our catch - the big-picture visions wriggling within our knotted ropes - it is equally important that we ask ourselves what has slipped through the mesh, swimming back into the expanse of our unconscious mind.
With Mercury’s ingress into Pisces comes heightened compassion, sensitivity, and a genuine desire to connect with others on a feeling level. Emotions are not easily captured in words. This is why transcendent, Piscean concepts such as “love” and “beauty” are better communicated through art. Therefore, Mercury in Pisces is inspirational rocket fuel for creatives! If music and poetry (or hieroglyphs for that matter) were our standard means of correspondence, we’d all have a much easier time navigating this terrain!
Yet, many would say that emotion poses a clear and present danger to “rational” thought. Empathy thwarts impartiality, causing us to project bias onto situations which require objectivity. Compassion can make us great listeners, and bad advice-givers. Optimism can cloud judgement. Wishful thinking can prevent us from accepting hard truths. For some of us, this influence will awaken our inner space cadet. The plot can easily be lost now, not necessarily because we’re not paying attention, but because we’re dreaming up possibilities instead of keeping our eyes on the road.
But many of us will be incredibly lucid during this planet’s passage. Our intuition is not only active, but accurate while Mercury is in Pisces. Discoveries may be made which shift how we understand reality. Conversations not only can inform, but enlighten. Words can HEAL.
The key issue with Mercury in Pisces communication lies in transposition. Our imagination is too big, and our means of conveyance are too limited. Seeking to express intangible concepts in prescriptive and rigid language is our primary hang-up. And so, thoughts become disjointed, facts are omitted, key components of an argument are lost, too much said, too little said. The idea slips out of the net, back into the depths of the psyche.
In the coming weeks, Mercury and the sun will make their superior conjunction, which generally lends to breakthroughs. Yet these two will synchronize atop Neptune, further blurring borders and clouding coherence, all while heightening the potency of the imaginal realm. If faced with confusion, anxiety, or information-overload, have patience. Throw another cast.
