The wounded-healer asteroid Chiron stations direct in Aries, following a five-month long retrograde spin. Consider key events which have transpired in your own journey since July 17. What self-effacing narratives have you challenged? How have acts of courage earned you new confidence?
Chiron’s transits characterize the stories we tell ourselves which perpetuate cyclical pain. In Aries, the story is that we are not strong or courageous enough to determine the course of our own lives. In this state of defeat, we allow others to make choices for us. We settle for less than we deserve. Yet when Chiron is retrograde, we are more easily able to question this fiction of our inferiority and recognize why we relinquish our agency to outside forces.
Since the middle of the year, we may have chosen to step back from unsupportive relationships, parting ways with those who have suggested, through action or inference, that we are “not enough”. We may have chosen to stop forcing our presence in the workplace, understanding that when others take our labor for granted, it is a reflection of their ethics, not our effort. Specific lessons will depend much upon the house that Chiron is transiting in your birth chart, yet all will reveal how, and to what extent, we retraumatize ourselves when we fail to advocate for our own worth.
The roots of shame, guilt, and feelings of inadequacy run deep. While we face these psychological foes, it can be difficult to discern anything going on around us. Yet, if we all had the ability to step outside of ourselves for a moment, to witness our acts of bravery and to clock the ways in which we have commanded new respect by asserting our truth, we would see that there are onlookers bearing witness. Maybe these are friends or family members. Maybe they are passing strangers. Whoever they are, our actions make an impression on them. Seeing others stand up for themselves is inspiring! When we watch ordinary humans overcome extraordinary challenges, we realize that we can too!
This is the power of Chiron: your personal catharsis has a ripple effect on your community. And now, as Chiron stations direct, it is our responsibility to use these internal revelations to maximize our presence in the outer world. In the coming months, the biggest challenges to our self-esteem will come not from within, but through conflict in our mundane, daily lives. We can expect more pushback from those who resent our newfound self-esteem. Tests and trials may take the form of power-hungry individuals armed with intimidation tactics. Expect to encounter more than one bully.
“Healing” does not suggest achieving a state of blissful apathy, where cruel acts or difficult situations no longer trigger us. We are human, and we will still feel pain when we are attacked. Rather, healing is accessed when we realize that it is not our responsibility to HOLD ON to pain. We do not need to build memorials to it. We do not need to protect it. It is not the cornerstone of our personality. While Chiron is direct, each courageous act of self-advocacy serves to dismantle this fallacy.
